UN designates Feb 17 Global Tourism Resilience Day, on Jamaica's recommendation

The United Nations has ratified Jamaica's efforts to bolster resilience in global tourism by officially designating February 17 as Global Tourism Resilience Day annually.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett introduced the resolution during a presentation on Global Tourism Resilience during the UN General Assembly meeting in New York Tuesday.

In a subsequent interview with Fox 5 New York, Mr Bartlett emphasized the importance of observing Global Tourism Resilience Day.

He predicted that this will increase awareness of global tourism stakeholders and boost the industry's capacity to effectively handle and recover swiftly from major disruptions.

The designation follows months of high-level discussions and diplomatic engagements.

Jamaica will officially recognize Global Tourism Resilience Day during the first ever Global Tourism Resilience Conference, set for February 15-17, at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus.
