PETALING JAYA: The number of new Covid-19 cases increased last week by 0.4% to 11,096 cases from the 11,052 cases recorded the week before, according to health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
This increase goes against the trend in recent weeks. Last week, cases went down 15.5% compared to the week before that.
However, in his update for the week ending June 11, Noor Hisham said there was a decrease in the number of people admitted to public hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine centres.
The number of hospital admissions dropped by 10% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.
Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases rose by 8%, while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds dropped by 17%.
Noor Hisham said there are currently 21,591 active cases.
“Recoveries dropped by 21.7% last week from 13,797 to 10,806.
“The number of deaths dropped from 26 cases to 25 , bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 35,711 cases,” he said in a statement.
He also said 4,524,727 Covid-19 cases had been recorded in the country since January 2020.
