EU diplomat pushes for Middle East peace deal at G7 talks in Italy
At G7 meeting in Italy EUʼs top diplomat calls for Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire deal acceptance. Current US-French proposal addresses security issues while Lebanonʼs stability hangs in balance
In Fiuggi Italy at a high-level G7 gathering Josep Borrell the EUʼs chief diplomat made strong statements about the Israel-Hezbollah situation. The US-French peace-deal proposal which addresses all security-related concerns got stuck because of Israeli governments resistance
Speaking at the side-lines of todays meeting Borrell pointed out that there arent any valid reasons for Israel to reject the agreement. The out-going EU foreign policy chief emphasized that some hard-line members of Israeli government block the deal: this creates unnecessary obstacles for regional stability
The top EU representative highlighted serious concerns about Lebanonʼs future. “If we dont reach agreement soon Lebanon will fall apart“ he stated with a clear sense of urgency. The US-French backed proposal aims to establish long-term peace between both sides but faces push-back from certain political groups
