Global election stats show surprising voter turnout patterns in 2024

Latest data from Nov-5th shows US voter turnout reached 65% with about 158-million votes counted (which is lower than last elections record-breaking numbers)

Asian nations showed mixed results in early-24: Indonesia got amazing turn-out numbers with 82% of people showing up to vote in rain-soaked conditions — local shop-owners helped by giving away free drinks nʼ snacks to voters. Sri Lanka had good numbers too reaching 79% turn-out in its first big vote since money troubles hit emʼ about 2 years back

Some places didnt do so well with voting numbers this year:

  • Pakistan got just 48% after keeping some leaders from running
  • Bangladesh saw only 42% cause opposition didnt take part
  • UK hit its worst numbers since early 2000s
  • South Africa dropped to 59% — lowest since they started having fair elections

The University of Floridas Election Lab data shows interesting trends: while some countries are getting more people to vote others seem to be losing voters interest — its really different from place to place. In places like Indonesia (which has worlds biggest one-day election) local support made big difference; while political issues kept many away in other nations
