US negotiator seeks answers in Lebanon about long-missing American reporter

Americas chief hostage expert has landed in Lebanon looking for answers about a missing US reporter. Roger Carstens the special envoy for hostage matters is meeting with local officials in Beirut searching for info about Austin Tice – a journalist who vanished in Syria back in 12/2012

The timing of this visit isnt random: its happening right after major changes in Syrian leadership (which could help unlock new information about Tices whereabouts). State Department rep Matthew Miller explained that Carstens mission is focused on gathering fresh intel and working towards getting the journalist back home

The search involves complex regional discussions – Carstens is talking with different officials across Lebanon trying to piece together what happened to Tice. The US government keeps this case as a top-priority matter; working through various channels to locate their missing citizen who disappeared while reporting from war-torn Syria almost twelve years ago
