DR Lovemore Gomera, the chief executive officer of the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute of Zimbabwe (CGAIZ) has called upon fellow professionals in different sectors to be proactive in bringing to the table solutions to the challenges facing the economy and playing their part in solving them.

Speaking here where his organisation is hosting its oversubscribed annual conference, Dr Gomera said as a professional capacity development body, they fully subscribe to the Government’s national vision as expressed in the National Development Strategy (NDS1) and ultimately Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income status.

He challenged delegates, drawn from different sectors to be part of the transformation journey by providing solutions to the prevailing challenges.

“Our conference theme, which is: ‘Attaining Vision 2030: Chartered Governance and Accountancy Professionals – Catalysts for Economic Transformation’, once again emphasises our role and that of our profession in contributing to the attainment of Vision 2030, the vision of Zimbabwe achieving an upper middle-income economy by 2030, which our Government has set out as the national vision,” said Dr Gomera.

“The theme also focuses on our position as the catalysts for Zimbabwean economic transformation. We have to put together a programme, which tackles several crucial issues affecting us as chartered governance professionals as we join and contribute to the march towards Vision 2030, adapt to the new changes in ways of working that the Covid-19 pandemic brought about and build a brand as chartered governance professionals.”

He said after the conference the organisation’s leadership will harmonise the submissions from delegates and engage the national leadership to share the insights, which should help build a solid economic development focus.

The CGAIZ indaba began yesterday and ends today.
