Blast and Gunfire Near Turkish Parliament; Ankara Calls it ‘Terrorist Attack

A “terrorist attack” occurred near Turkey’s Parliament in Ankara on Sunday, resulting in injuries to two police officers, according to the interior ministry.

According to the ministry, two attackers arrived in a commercial vehicle at approximately 9:30 a.m. (0630 GMT). They proceeded to carry out a bomb attack at the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security within our Ministry of the Interior.

“One of the terrorists blew himself up, and the other was neutralised,” the ministry added on social media, saying two officers received “minor injuries”.

The district that was targeted is host to various ministries and the Turkish Parliament, which was scheduled to reopen today with an address from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as reported by Turkish media.

This attack happened just hours before the reopening of the Turkish Parliament after the summer recess.

Security measures have been intensified around the Parliament building and the adjacent Interior Ministry in response to the incident.
