During Friday prayer, according to officials, a blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan has claimed the lives of at least three people.
The mosque’s roof collapsed in the aftermath of the explosion, as local broadcaster Geo News reported. The tragic incident left approximately 30 to 40 individuals trapped beneath the debris.
The explosion’s destructive force not only caused immediate casualties but also resulted in structural damage that led to the roof’s collapse. The situation remains critical as rescue efforts are underway to free those trapped under the rubble, highlighting the urgent need for assistance and support in the affected area.
The mosque blast occurred shortly after a devastating suicide attack in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, where at least 52 individuals lost their lives and over 50 sustained injuries. This earlier attack targeted a religious gathering commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed, further emphasizing the escalating security concerns and challenges facing the region.
Recently, Pakistan has experienced a notable resurgence in extremist militant attacks. This escalation can be traced back to the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement between the government and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an umbrella organization encompassing various hardline groups.
