Turkish media reports that the coastal guards of this country have rescued 70 Afghan refugees in the Çanakkale area and detained 41 other “illegal” immigrants.
On Wednesday, Turkish Anadolu Agency cited Turkish coastal guard forces reporting that these individuals were detained and rescued from the Ayvacık town, also known as “Canakkale.”
According to reports, some of these refugees were aboard a rubber boat, which the Turkish coastal guards identified and apprehended.
The news bulletin states that 70 illegal immigrants of Afghan nationality, who had been driven into Turkish territorial waters by Greek forces on a rubber boat, were rescued and brought to the shore.
It should be noted that these individuals were transferred to the migration office of the Canakkale district in Turkey after going through legal procedures.
Previously, Turkish security forces had reported the detention of over a hundred “illegal” refugees, including Afghan citizens, in Edirne.
According to reports, Turkey has detained at least four thousand Afghan refugees from various cities since the beginning of this year.
This comes when the Turkish government has emphasized its efforts to combat illegal immigration.
