Russia Says West Views Ukraine As Colony

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, plans to move holy objects from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery to the West make it clear that Ukraine is considered a colony.

“It is a tradition for colonial powers to behave like bandits toward the national and cultural heritages of the countries they view as their colonies. Undoubtedly, they consider Ukraine to be their colony, not just their fiefdom,” she pointed out, Russian State News Agency, Tass reported.

Zakharova claims that the West frequently deals with various parts of the world by stealing national treasures and that Western museums have become “repositories for stolen items.”

According to a report by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Kyiv authorities and UNESCO officials had reached an agreement to relocate Christian relicts from the Kyiv-Pechersk Larvra monastery to museums in Vatican, Germany, Italy and France, citing the need “to save them from Russian missile attacks.”

The report also claimed that a list of church property had been made, and money had been set aside to send the objects to Europe. There are specialized vehicles ready, some of which include chilled climate-control equipment.

Russian President Vladimir Putin began the war against Ukraine on February 24 2022, from the north, east and south.

He launched a “special military operation” that aimed to “demilitarize” and “denazify” the country to protect ethnic Russians, stop Kyiv from joining NATO, and maintain it inside Russia’s “sphere of influence.”

Soon after, the Russian troops were confronted with the resistance of the Ukrainian military, backed by Western countries, particularly NATO member states which resulted in the stuck of Russian troops.

According to a UNICEF report on October 2022, “over 7.6 million refugees from Ukraine are recorded across Europe, with 4.2 million registered for Temporary Protection or similar national protection schemes. Inside Ukraine, more than 7 million people have been internally displaced, and 17.7 million people are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance, including 3.3 million children.”

However, the war between Russia and Ukraine has assumed several new aspects, making it appear that it will not be resolved anytime soon.
