2 poachers held with deer hides in Bagerhat

Members of Rapid Action Battalion said they arrested two poachers with hides of 18 deer from a market in Bagerhat Sadar upazila.

The arrestees are Mohammad Abdul Hakim (50) of Morrelgonj upazila and Mohammad Kamrul Islam (35) of Sharankhola upazila, reports our local correspondent.

Acting on a tip-off, a Rab team conducted a raid at Kashem Plaza in Barakpur Bazar yesterday afternoon and arrested the two poachers with 18 deer hides, said Md Bazlur Rashid, assistant director (media) of Rab-6 in Khulna in a press release issued this afternoon.

During the drive, Rab also seized two mobile phones and Tk 2,000 cash from the arrestees' possession.

The poachers and the seized deer skins were handed over to Bagerhat Model Police Station this afternoon after a case was filed in this regard.

During primary interrogation, the poachers confessed that they used to collect deer skin and meat from the Sundarbans and supply it to people in various parts of the country, the Rab officials added.
