30 including police injured as villagers, police clash in Barishal-Bhola border

At least 30 people including policemen and women were injured in a clash ensued between villagers and police at Mahishyadi area, adjacent to Barishal-Bhola border yesterday (June 9, 2022).

Police had to open 28 rounds of bullets to disperse the agitated villagers, reports our Barishal correspondent quoting Enayet Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhola Sadar Police Station.

Among the injured, 12 persons including women were admitted at Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital with bullet injuries, said locals.

According to locals, Rubel Kazi, a resident of Sreepur along with villegers, armed with weapons, were heading towards Bheduria village of Bhola.

When police barred them at the middle of Barishal-Bhola border, the villagers swooped in on police that triggered a clash between them, said Harun Mollah, chairman of Sreepur union.

Later, police opened blank fire to bring the situation under control, he said.

He added that Rubel Kazi has been trying to grab land from Bheduria village for a long. Centring this, several clashes took places earlier. Yesterday's clash was also took place centring the issue, he further said.

Contacted, Rubel Kazi denied the allegation saying that he had no involvement with the incident.

He claimed that police launched attack on innocent villagers without any provocation.

OC Enayet said high ups of police visited the spot. Some policemen were also injured in the incident, he added.
