Cop killed, five family members injured in Chattogram road crash

A police inspector was killed and five of his family members were injured after a microbus carrying them hit a road divider on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chattogram's Mirsarai upazila this morning.

Deceased Jahid Iqbal was attached to the police's Special Branch in Thakurgaon.

He joined Bangladesh Police as sub-inspector in 2005, reports out Chattogram correspondent quoting police.

Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mirsarai Police Station, said the accident took place in Kamaldah area around 7:40am when Jahid along with the five, including his sister, were heading towards Bandarban.

Shahadat Hossian, inspector of Kumira Highway Police Station, said, "Theinspector was going to Bandarban from Dhaka on a vacation trip with his family members. The accident took place as the driver fell asleep."

The officer was pronounced dead by doctors at Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex, he told The Daily Star.

The body was kept at the highway police station.

All the injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
