Gymnasts disappoint in vault table final

Bangladesh's hope of achieving something better in gymnastics in the fifth Islamic Solidarity Games was shattered when New Zealand-based Bangladeshi gymnast Ali Kader Haque and Abu Saeed Rafi finished fifth and sixth in the final of vault table event in Konya, Turkey on Thursday.

Both Ali Kader and Abu Saeed failed to shine in the just-concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham but they did well in Islamic Solidarity games by qualifying for the finals with scores of 12.950 and 12.175 respectively. Ali and Rafi even bettered their qualifying scores in the final by scoring 12.975 and 12.350 respectively but their scores were not good enough to win a medal in vault table event in which Ivan Tikhonov of Azerbaijan grabbed gold medal with a score of 14.550 while Adem Asil and Ahmet Onoder of Turkey won silver and bronze medals by scoring 13.625 and 13.600 respectively.
