He could not even stop to save his son

A university student was killed under the wheels of a train right before his father's eyes at Abdulpur Railway Junction in Natore's Lalpur upazila yesterday.

Hasanuzzaman Imtiaz, 21, sixth-semester law student of Varendra University, and his father advocate Isahaq Ali are residents of Ruppur area in ​​Pabna's Ishwardi upazila, said police.

The duo was going to Rajshahi by a commuter train, said Firoz Ahmed, assistant superintendent of Ishwardi railway police.

As the train stopped at Abdulpur, Hasanuzzaman got down to buy breakfast for his father from a shop on the platform. As the train started moving, he tried to hurriedly get back on the train.

During the process, he slipped and went under the train wheels, the police official said, adding that Hasanuzzaman died on the spot.

His father Isahaq watched the event but could not get down from the train as it was already moving fast. Later, he got down at Lokmanpur station and returned to Abdulpur just to see his son dead, assistant superintendent Firoz added.

Hasanuzzaman was going to Rajshahi with his father to his university, said Mihir Ranjan Deb, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Railway Police Station.
