Job seekers with visual impairments demand equal opportunities

A group of job seekers with visual impairments today demanded that the government make special arrangements for persons with disabilities to ensure equal job opportunities in the public sector.

The demand is one of three they made ahead of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022 tomorrow.

The two other demands are: the government raising disability allowance to Tk 5,000 from Tk 850, and ensuring that people with disabilities get assistance during recruitment tests for government jobs.

They made the demands at a human chain in front of the National Press Club under the banner of "Chakuri Protyashi Drishti Protibondhi Graduates' Parishad".

The convener of the platform, Ali Hossain, said, "The government had assured us that they would make special arrangements for all physically disabled persons while cancelling the quota system in 2018. However, the those assurances have not been fulfilled."

"The government gives us allowance of Tk 850 only, which is not sufficient as prices of all essential goods are high," said Jannat Akter, member of the platform.
