Mayhem in Ctg: Hefajat leader Mufti Harun Izhar gives confessional statement

Hefajat-e-Islam leader Mufti Harun Izhar has given his confessional statement over the mayhem in Chattogram.  

The arrested central Hefajat leader Mufti Harun Izar today gave his confessional statement before a court of Chattogram in connection with the cases filed over the mayhem in Hathazari upazila on March 26 during the protests against Indian PM Modi's visit.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdullah Al Masum of Ctg district police told The Daily Star "Muti Harun Izhar confessed to his involvement in the mayhem during his confession to the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and mentioned several names of Hefajat men who directly instigated the violence."

Mufti Harun Izhar, education and cultural affairs secretary of the now-dissolved central committee of Hefajat-e-Islam, was arrested from Jamiyatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa, known as Lalkhan Bazar madrasa, in Chattogram city on April 29 night by Rab.

He was later handed over to police and shown arrested in three cases filed over violence in Hathazari.
