Nigar hails team effort

Bangladesh women's team started off their Asia Cup campaign on a high as the hosts registered a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Thailand at ground 2 of Sylhet International Cricket stadium today.

The defending champions bundled out Thailand for just 82 runs and went on to chase the target with 50 balls to spare, courtesy of Shamima Sultana's 30-ball 49.

Nigar Sultana and Co had to work hard to seal a win against Thailand not so long ago during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup qualifier, but the Tigresses remained clinical against the same opponent at home soil on Saturday.

Nigar hailed the approach from her team, saying that they are willing to continue this run in the coming days.

"We always plan to utilise the powerplay. Shamima apu batted exceptionally well and Pinky also gave good support and we want this. Whenever we lack in these areas, we fail to score big or are unable to chase a big target. I think it's a good start and we always think about our batters' approach so that we have good intent," Nigar told the media after the game.

The Bangladesh skipper is confident about retaining the title.

"First of all, the first game is always important in a tournament as it sets the tone for the rest of the tournament. At the same time, it also boosts the morale of the team going forward. Obviously, the pitch at the World Cup qualifiers and this pitch here is different and I feel we should convincingly win against teams like Thailand," she added.

Bangladesh will take on Pakistan in the second game on October 3.
