Shayestaganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) has been accused of sending letters to three local companies demanding food items worth over Tk 10 lakh to entertain guests invited on the occasion of Police Day and Durga Puja.

The Habiganj district police formed a committee to investigate the allegation last night after learning of the matter from police officials, local media outlets, and social media, Habiganj Additional Superintendent of Police Khalilur Rahman told our Moulvibazar correspondent this morning.

Sheikh Nazmul Kamal requested food items worth Tk 3.5 lakh from each of the three companies via letters delivered by his constables.

Each letter asked for 300 plates of biryani, 30kg of jilapi, 30kg of sweets, 300 packets of curd, and 500 bottles of water, Khalilur added.

The committee is headed by ASP Samshul Haque and the other members are ASP Khalilur and Special Branch Inspector Rafiqul Islam. They will submit the probe report within three working days.

The letters were addressed to the managing director of Square Denims Ltd in Olipur, the MD of Tafrid Cotton Mills in the same area, and the general manager (administration) of PRAN-RFL Group at Habiganj Industrial Park.

Contacted, Touhiduzzaman, assistant general manager (PR) at PRAN-RFL Group, confirmed that they had received the letter.

This correspondent tried to contact OC Kamal for his comment on the allegation, but he did not pick up the phone despite multiple calls.
