Parliamentary body suggests all govt mobile financial transactions via Nagad

A parliamentary body today suggested that all government transactions related to mobile financial services should be conducted through "Nagad".

The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Post, Telecommunications, and Information Technology at a meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban came up with this suggestion.

In the meeting, a detailed discussion on the overall activities in Nagad was held following the presentation of a report by the IT ministry on the digital financial services of Bangladesh Post Office.

In the meeting, the ministry informed that some individuals and organisations are misleading the general people by giving wrong information about Nagad.

According to the meeting sources, the members of the parliamentary committee expressed their satisfaction with the activities of Nagad.

They suggested making mobile financial services more popular and bringing them to the doorsteps of customers. The committee members suggested that all types of social security benefits, including age-old allowance, education scholarships and stipends, should be paid via Nagad.

According to the information presented by the ministry, the number of customers of Nagad is about 6.68 crore, and the number of entrepreneurs is 2.67 lakh. The number of distributors is 208.

The daily transaction is about Tk 953 crore.

The number of direct employment created by Nagad is 6,231 while the number of indirect employment creation is 2.55 lakh.
