Police sub-inspector beaten to death by younger brother in Narail

Police sub-inspector (SI) Salauddin Sheikh, 45, was beaten to death by his younger brother at Batasi village in Narail's Lohagarh upazila this noon.

The incident took place at Sheikhparabatasi in Shalnagar union of the upazila, our Bagerhat correspondent reports.

Salauddin was working in the Special Branch of Magura district police.

According to police and locals, Salauddin had a long-running dispute with his younger brother Jasimuddin and Giasuddin over land.

Although there were arbitrations at different times, the conflict was not resolved.

On Monday around one o'clock in the noon, Salauddin, who was on leave, and his younger brother Jasimuddin had an altercation.

At one stage, Jasimuddin hit Salauddin with a stick, leaving him seriously injured. Locals and relatives rescued him, but he died on the way to Khulna.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Lohagarh Police Station Syed Ashiqur Rahman said, "I initially came to know that Salauddin was killed in a dispute between the brothers over family property. Jasimuddin has been absconding since the incident. Salauddin's body has been sent to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy."
