RMG workers' wage: 3rd board meeting ends without decision

The board formed for recommending the minimum wage for the garment workers could not come up with any monthly salary proposal even in its third meeting held in Dhaka today.

However, Chairman of the Minimum Wage Board Liaquat Ali Mollah said he is hopeful that both the owners' and workers' representatives will propose the minimum monthly salary in the next meeting to be held in third week of this month.

Mollah made the remark after the third meeting of the board at his office in the capital.

He also said that the minimum wage for the garment workers will be finalised in consultation with the representatives of the board by mid-November.

Meanwhile, workers from different organisations demonstrated and chanted slogans demanding Tk 23,000 as the minimum monthly salary when the meeting was taking place.

The agitating workers also handed over a proposal to the board chairman to press home their demand.
