The HC on September 17 granted bail to Zakir in the case filed over amassing Tk 15.88 crore illegally.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking stay on the HC order of bail.

Senior lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC while senior lawyer Md Ozi Ullah argued for Zakir during the hearing today.

Accused Zakir was earlier posted to Bangladesh High Commission in Kenya.

According to the case statement, the ACC in its primary enquiry found information of houses, flats, cars and fixed deposit receipts (FDR) at different banks in Dhaka, which Zakir acquired through illegal means.

Following the enquiry, ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya on March 14 last year filed the case with its Integrated District Office in Dhaka.

The accused earned more wealth illegally beyond his known source of income, according to the case.
