Sedition case: Minu, 2 other BNP leaders secure bail in Rajshahi

A court in Rajshahi today granted bail of three BNP leaders, including Khaleda Zia's adviser Mizanur Rahman Minu, in a sedition case filed against them earlier this year.

The two other BNP leaders are Rajshahi city BNP president Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul and general secretary Shafuqul Haque Milon.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge AHM Ilias Hossain granted their bail prayers upon their surrender before the court.

The BNP leaders got anticipatory bail from the High Court in August and they were directed by the HC to surrender before the trial court in Rajshahi within September 26, their lawyers said.

On March 16, Mosabbir Islam, law affairs secretary of Rajshahi city Awami League, filed the sedition case with the court accusing four BNP leaders, including the three.

In the case, the plaintiff claimed that Minu and three other BNP leaders -- in their speeches at BNP's divisional rally in Rajshahi on March 2 -- criticised Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and threatened Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with death.
