Bahamas island most expensive Airbnb in the world, according to report

A search for the most expensive Airbnb in the world has led a company called S Money to The Bahamas, where they crowned Musha Cay the most expensive at $60,000 per night.

According to Airbnb, the cay requires a five-night minimum stay, meaning $345,000 is your base for this vacation.

The next closest most expensive property is almost $10,000 cheaper and is in Switzerland.

According to S Money, what sets Musha Cay apart is the visitor gets the entire island, five homes, a staff and are able to brag about a stay at famed magician Davis Copperfield’s island.

“There’s some cachet to being the most expensive Airbnb of all, and the proprietors of Musha Cay at Copperfield Bay in The Bahamas claim it is ‘arguably the most luxurious private island in the world’,” the S Money report explains.

“You’ll have five homes on the island to divide between up to 16 friends, and your all-included staff of 30 includes a butler, gardener and boatman. Whether entertainment is provided by the island’s owner, David Copperfield, is not specified.”

S Money explained that in order to find the top property it “searched Airbnb for the highest-priced listings in each country and then checked the top results manually to ensure accuracy”.

This report comes as The Bahamas is preparing to ensure vacation home rentals are properly listed with the Department of Inland Revenue and are therefore properly taxed as businesses.

The government is also preparing to bring the Tourism Development Corporation of The Bahamas Bill, 2023, which, among other things, codifies the Tourism Development Corporation to be the primary entity concerned with resilient and sustainable tourism development in The Bahamas. It seeks to provide for a register of tourism-related enterprises, including vacation rental accommodations, with the corporation.

The corporation alone would grant its seal of approval to registered tourism-related enterprises and, “where it is satisfied that the owner is a fit and proper person and the enterprise meets the guidelines imposed by the corporation, for the display and withdrawal of the seal of approval and for the right for persons aggrieved by the decision of the corporation to appeal”.

Undoubtedly, Musha Cay will not have trouble being granted a seal of approval with all of its luxury trappings.

S Money said in its report that since its launch in 2008, Airbnb has raised its prices and its standards.

“But if there’s one benefit to pricier Airbnb rooms, it’s the fantasizing that they encourage,” S Money says in the report.

“From the weird and wonderful to the reassuringly expensive, the properties in Airbnb land are always worth a wander.

The top nine most expensive Airbnb listings after Musha Cay are Alpine Estate in Switzerland at 50,000 per night; The Hidden Palace in Indonesia at $35,000 per night; Private Island Ibiza in Spain at $33,000 per night; Villa Cove Spring House in Barbados at $28,000 per night; Cobb Road Daydream in the US at $27,000 per night (listed twice); Pure Turquoise in Antigua and Barbuda at $27,000 per night; Villa Odaya in France at $26,000 per night and Villa MK in Turkey at $25,000 per night.
