A 31-year-old man has been charged with a double shooting last month that killed a man and seriously injured another.

Spencer Lewis, of Comfort Street, appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans on Monday charged with the murder of Max Darville and the attempted murder of Deiondre Demeritte.

According to police, the men were attending a grillout on Lucky Heart Corner around 9 p.m. on September 19 when the occupants of a heavily tinted Toyota Passo opened fire into the crowd.

Darville and Deiondre were rushed to hospital in critical condition and Darville died in hospital several days later.

Lewis was not required to enter pleas to the charges. He was denied bail and returns to court on February 16, 2023 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment.
