A man was on Monday charged with the rape of a 33-year-old woman, to whom prosecutors say he offered a ride.

Kennedy Ingraham, of Coral Harbour, is accused of pulling a gun on the woman and sexually assaulting her inside his car.

The charge stems from an incident that allegedly took place on March 20.

According to police, the woman was walking along Carmichael Road when she accepted a ride from a stranger.

However, the man, whom prosecutors say is Ingraham, did not take her to her destination and violated her instead.

Ingraham, who is represented by Calvin Seymour, did not have to enter a plea to the charge when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

He was remanded to prison since the magistrate lacks jurisdiction to consider bail for the charge.

However, Ingraham is expected to seek bail in the Supreme Court.

He returns to court on July 27 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment.
