A man has been charged with manslaughter in relation to the fatal shooting of a coworker.

Anthon Sturrup, 27, of Union Village, appeared before Magistrate Kendra Kelly on Friday charged with the killing of 32-year-old Lavardo Fernander.

The charge stems from a January 21 shooting. Police said that Sturrup, the deceased, and others were at the back of a home on Faith Avenue South when Sturrup allegedly shot and killed Fernander while clearing a high-powered air rifle.

Sturrup was not required to enter a plea to the charge and was denied bail.

He will remain in custody unless he’s granted bail by a Supreme Court judge.

Sturrup is next scheduled to appear before Kelly on March 15 for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment.
