A 58-year-old foreign man has been fined for attacking a Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) disconnector on the job.

Police arrested Stephen Acres on October 3 for causing harm after he punched Gabriel Gordon in the face as he tried to disconnect the power at a condominium at Palatial Estates on Paradise Island.

Gordon fought back and restrained Acres until the police arrived. A photo and an accompanying voice note regarding the incident have gone viral.

Acres remained in police custody until his court appearance yesterday. He pleaded guilty to the charge at his arraignment before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis.

He paid a $1,200 fine to the court and $500 in compensation to his victim, resulting in his release from custody.

However, Acres has been given 24 hours to leave the country at his own expense.

Kevin Maynard represented Acres and Sergeant Mark Penn prosecuted.
