Police shot and a killed a man on Saturday who they said was fleeing an armed robbery and later shot at them.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said police responded to reports of an armed robbery on Robinson Road after 3 p.m.

When officers arrived in the area of Miami Street, Skippings said, they saw a car, with two men inside, that fit the description of the one used in the armed robbery.

“Officers attempted to stop the car, however, it sped off,” she said.

The car stopped on Washington Street where one of the men exited the car, produced a gun and engaged officers, she said.

He was then shot to death by police.

She said the victim appears to be in his late teens.

Police recovered a gun, ammunition and a large amount of cash from the victim.

“I would wish to speak to those persons who seem to want to engage in lawless behavior in our country,” Skippings said.

“The police will remain firm. We will be resolute and we will continue to preserve this country for the good citizens of it.

“Those persons who seek to engage in criminal activity, those who seek to engage the police, the police will protect the good citizens and the police officers will protect themselves.”
