Outbreak of African Swine Fever in Sarpang

The African Swine Fever outbreak has been confirmed in Gelephu Gewog in Sarpang. Ten pigs died in two villages of Gelephu Gewog last week due to the outbreak.

A team from the Livestock and Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority visited the two villages and cordoned off the affected farms. The team has yet to ascertain the cause of the outbreak.

According to livestock officials, there is no vaccine or effective treatment for the disease. African Swine Fever is a highly contagious viral disease of domestic and wild pigs. However, the virus does not affect people.
