Cayo North Area Rep Chebat Denies Reports of Stacking Cayo’s Municipal Slate

With the campaign season fast approaching leading up to the municipal elections, it is not unusual for party supporters whose candidates of choice fall short of making the slate, vent their anger on a social media platform. Such has reportedly been the case in Cayo North, where Minister of Energy and Logistics, Michel Chebat is the area representative. He has been accused of circumventing the P.U.P.’s process of selecting candidates for the municipal elections. And today when he was asked about it, he denied it.

“That is not true. Our party has a process. We have a vetting committee that vetted all of the applications and it is really a party decision who will run and represent the party. I had absolutely nothing to do with it. I do not sit in the vetting committee and neither am I a part of the national executive that determines who our candidates are. So your critics are wrong.”
