Do Senior Members of Briceño Administration Believe in the PM’s Leadership?

Shyne Barrow

In the notice submitted by the Leader of the Opposition, he carefully outlines the reasons for a no-confidence motion by referencing various sections of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives.

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition

“And that’s why, as you look at the no-confidence motion, the facts were important.   The facts were important.  Prime Minister’s cousin, it was this government that lambasted the former UDP administration for nepotism, for lawyer fees and legal fees, and this one being hired and all of these nepotistic relations.  And here we have the prime minister’s cousin representing Portico, here we have the prime minister’s Minister of State, in his Ministry of Finance, and the prime minister’s Minister of Immigration, two senators that were not elected, but appointed by the prime minister having represented the CEO of Portico Enterprises Ltd. in his personal interest.  These things matter because it then explains why there was such a determination by the prime minister, despite legal advice from one of the most preeminent international lawyers in the world.”

Isani Cayetano

“What is the desired outcome of a no confidence motion at this point?”

Shyne Barrow

“Well, we hope that the many cabinet ministers that opposed the prime minister’s leadership internally will do so publicly.  I can assure you, of John Briceno were to go to a convention right now, he would lose and that there is an internal struggle right now because many senior members of the People‘s United Party do not believe in his leadership.”
