BELIZE CITY, Mon. July 17, 2023

On a short visit home to celebrate his 80th birthday is Texas A&M Athletics Coach, Colin Thurton, premier Belizean sprinter who represented the Jewel at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics. From the “golden age” of Belizean athletics in the 1960s, Colin has been instrumental over the decades in assisting other Belizean athletes, most notably former Central American 100m and 200m champion Kaina Martinez, whom he guided to an outstanding athletic and academic career at Texas A&M University. Nelson is a former president of the Belize Athletics Association and has maintained close ties of friendship with Colin with whom he has coordinated in athletics on many occasions over the years. We hope to have a more in-depth look at Colin’s outstanding athletic journey in our Friday issue.

Welcome back to the Jewel, brother Colin Thurton!
