Ministry of Transport Looking for a Chief Transport Officer

Rodwell Ferguson

Diane Vasquez is Chief Transport Officer no more and Peter Williams is now acting in that position. That was the official word coming from Transport Minister Rodwell Ferguson today during an interview with the media. About two weeks ago, Minister Ferguson confirmed that Vasquez was negotiating her contract with the ministry and it would appear that an agreement could not be reached. A vacancy for the post will now be advertised for qualified candidates. Here’s what the minister had to say.

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport

“We have to be very realistic. When you have a contract, then you have to negotiate the terms of your contract. And so the person who is offering you the contract wah decided if what you want to negotiate if they are going to agree with it. They normally will throw out a figure to you and you will decide if you want to take it or leave it. I know the Ministry of Finance is the one who is responsible for contracts and so they negotiated with the CTO; I guess she refused what they offered her. And she has a right to decide whether she wants it or don’t want it. So at this point in time, there is no chief transport officer. Mister Peter Williams is acting as the chief transport officer. I have already told my C.E.O. that I do not want to decide who will be the next transport officer. It will go to the Ministry of Public Service and advertised within the public service to see who best fits that criteria.”

“Is it true though that at this time members of the ministry do not agree with Mister Williams?”

Rodwell Ferguson

“I will not say that. When people want to make mischief, they will say anything. Wait till the public service decides who is going to be the chief transport officer.”
