Shyne Says Solution to Price Gouging is to Reduce Fuel Prices

Shyne Barrow

Earlier today, Opposition Leader Barrow also took aim at Prime Minister John Briceño.  According to Shyne, little has been done by the People’s United Party government to address the real problem behind price gouging.  Barrow maintains that the exorbitant cost of fuel is what is what continues to encourage price gouging.  This, he said, comes long after the initial shock felt at the start of the Russia/Ukraine conflict a year ago.

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition

“The problem as to price gouging that we are seeing is merely a symptom is the highest cost of fuel ever and I do not expect that a prime minister who, either himself or his family, has interest in many gas stations across the country would do anything to cut the cost of fuel.  And I really think it’s a question that the media needs to put to him directly.  I think in the interest of transparency and accountability, we need to see what type of profits these companies that are related to the prime minister are making and that is a serious question to be put to him. If the prime minister is in the fuel business himself, I hear now that his family controls all the fuel, that they have taken over from Puma, or whoever was the designate, that they now control all the fuel, then why would they cut the taxes, why would they cut the fuel and bring it to below ten dollars that John Briceño, as Leader of the Opposition, claimed was possible?  I don’t think it will ever happen.”
