Honduras, Tegucigalpa (AP) — A prisoner of a powerful street gang in Honduras killed six people in a prison in northwestern Honduras, officials said Monday.
Prison guards found the bodies of six Vario 18 gang prisoners piled up in the corridor during a routine inspection at Irama's prison early Monday.
"Six people died in the prison," National Police Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Marlon Lagos told local media. "We are investigating and inspecting and interviewing the coordinators of various modules to determine motives."
Lagos does not know how the prisoners were killed. However, he said a forensic expert was working in the field.
Barrio 18 At least 90 members of the gang have been detained in prison for crimes ranging from drug trafficking to blackmail and murder.
