Pensacola, Florida (AP) — At a motel in Florida, officials said an eight-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed a one-year-old girl and injured a two-year-old girl. ..
The boy's father left the gun holstered in the closet of the motel room in Pensacola. After he left the room, his son found it, killed the baby through it, and fired a round that struck the infant, Escambian County Sheriff Chip Simmons said at a press conference on Monday. The children shot were those of his father's girlfriend.
Infants are expected to recover, Simmons said.
The boy's father returned to the room, picked up a gun, took what the investigators believed was a drug, and left the room again, Simmons said. He has been accused of being a convicted felony in possession of a firearm.
He was arrested and later released on $ 41,000 in public debt.
