New York (AP) — A single skyscraper stands out in the Manhattan skyline. It's not the tallest, but it's the skinniest in the world.

Designed by New York firm SHoP Architects, the 84-story Residential Steinway Tower has a defiant width-to-height ratio of 23 1/2 to 1.

"Anything 1 to 10 or more is considered an elongated building. 1 to 15 or more is considered eccentric and very difficult to do." said Greg Pasqualeri, founder of SHoP Architects. "The world's thinnest buildings are mostly in Hong Kong, about 17-18 to 1." The 60 apartments in the

tower range from $18 million to $6,600 per unit. In the $10,000 range, it offers 360-degree views of the city. It's located along his 57th Street in Manhattan, known as "Billionaire Row," just south of Central Park.

At 1,428 feet (435 m), the building is her second tallest residential tower in the Western Hemisphere, behind only the nearby Central Park Tower at 1,550 feet (470 m). By the way, the tallest tower in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 2,717 feet (828 meters).

The top of the Steinway Tower is so narrow that high winds can shake high-rise luxury homes by several feet.

"All skyscrapers must move," said Pasqualeri. "If it's too rigid, it's actually more dangerous. It has to be flexible." balanced. Reflective glass is essential to the exterior, but it also includes a textured terracotta and bronze façade that creates wind turbulence to slow the building's acceleration. Approximately 200 rock anchors descend up to 30 meters (100 feet) into the underlying bedrock to provide a deep foundation.

The Steinway Tower has a long history as the former site of Steinway Hall, built in 1924. JDS Development Group and Property Markets Group purchased his building in 2013 and are now looking to the future.

"My expectation is that 50 years from now, you'll only know New York at 111 West 57th St.," Pasqualeri said. “I hope it will have a special place in the hearts of all future New Yorkers.” ——
