“It broke my heart a little for him and for his family that we didn’t have time to do it during his lifetime, but I’m happy for him that we can do it for him after his death,” declared Minister of Culture and Communications Mathieu Lacombe.
Legault said the government is in talks with Côté’s family and is considering other ways to commemorate his contribution to Quebec culture.
The actor retired from public life in April 2022, to treat a bone marrow disease. Born in 1950 in Alma in Lac-St-Jean, Côté had a long career in theatre and cinema. His extensive filmography includes Cruising Bar and C.R.A.Z.Y.
