Kabul — Afghan authorities have finished searching for survivors of the earthquake that killed 1,000 people, officials said Friday, of the drug. Added supply and other important aid was inadequate.

A disaster ministry spokesman said a Wednesday earthquake in a remote area near the Pakistani border injured about 2,000 people and partially or completely destroyed 10,000 homes. Mohammad Nassim Haqqani told Reuters.

"The search activity has ended, 1,000 people have died, about 2,000 have been injured, and there are both serious and superficial injuries," said Haqqani.

He did not elaborate on why the search for survivors was stopped after about 48 hours. Survivors were separated from the rubble of other earthquakes after a considerable amount of time. The

magnitude 6.1 earthquake is about 160 km (100 miles) southeast of Kabul in a dry mountainous region dotted with small settlements that were often the center of decades of war in Afghanistan. Attacked.

In countries already tackling the humanitarian crisis that has worsened since the Taliban took over last August, lack of communication and lack of adequate roads have hampered relief efforts.

Haqqani stated that Afghanistan did not have enough significant supplies to treat the injured.

"The Ministry of Health doesn't have enough medicine. It's a big disaster, so we need medical assistance and other necessities," he said.

Relief operations will be a major test for the hardline Taliban, who took over when US-led international forces withdrew after the 20-year war.

Since then, the country has been largely isolated and separated from many direct international aid due to sanctions.

Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates all said they would send aid on Thursday. Supplies from neighboring Pakistan have already crossed the border.

India, which has a close relationship with the Taliban, said it had sent 27 tons of supplies in two flights to hand over to international aid agencies.

Most of South Asia is active in seismic activity as the structural plate known as the Indian plate is pushed north into the Eurasian plate.

In 2015, an earthquake struck a remote area in northeastern Afghanistan, killing hundreds of people in Afghanistan and nearby northern Pakistan. (Report by Mohammad Yunus Yawar in Kabul, Written by Alasdair Pal, Edited by Tom Hogue)
