Addis Ababa-The African Union should promote peace talks between the Ethiopian government and rebels from the northern Tigray region, the ruling party told state media on Monday.

The conflict in Africa's second most populous country, Ethiopia, has banished millions of people and famined parts of Tigray since it broke out in November 2020. And killed thousands of civilians.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said two weeks ago he had formed a committee to study how the federal government would negotiate with rebels.

After discussing the Commission's report, Abby's ruling Prosperity Party wants the African Union to oversee the peaceful resolution of the conflict, Justice Minister Gedion Ngatun said. Timotewos told the state news agency.

However, the government was reportedly ready to take action if violence continued, Gideon said by the Ethiopian news agency.

He provided no further details on the report from the Commission led by Demeke Mekonen.

It took 10 to 15 days to set out the details of the negotiations, and government officials said the report would be published to Reuters last week.

The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), a former rebel army turned into a political party, will participate in a "trustworthy, impartial and principled" peace process after Abby announces the establishment of a committee. He said he was ready.

TPLF spokesman Getacheureda did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the Prosperity Party's position.
