Albert Pujols hit a home run to finish with four hits. Nolan Arenado also hit deep in his three-hit streak Wednesday night in Denver as the Cardinals beat the Colorado Rockies 9-5.

Paul Dejong finished with his four hits, Lars Nootvar his two triples, and Yadier Molina with his two hits for St. Louis.

Brendan Rodgers hit three for him, Josei Grecias, Yona Thundaza, and Elefris Montero two each.

The Cardinals took an early lead over Colorado starter Kyle Freeland (7-8). Goldschmidt singled to his first and his second, and Arenado drove in Tommy Edman on his double.

Pujols singled for another run, and Tyler's O'Neal's double made him 3–0. DeJong had his RBI his single and after Molina was hit by a pitch, Nootbaar hit a sacrifice fly to close out a five-run inning.

The Rockies defeated St. Louis starter Jose Quintana in his third inning. Daza and Charlie Blackmon led on singles, putting the runners on his first and his third, and Daza came home on Iglesias' sacrifice fly.

With one out by DeJon he doubled, and it remained so until the fifth inning when Molina scored on a single.

That concludes Freeland's night. He allowed 6 runs on 10 hits and struck out just 1 in 4 1/3 innings.

Austin Gomber came out and took his two outs in the final of the inning.

The Rockies returned his one run in the bottom of the fifth. After Iglesias doubled him to left and Rodgers struck out, C.J. Kron tripled him to make it 6-2.

Quintana (4-5) pitched his six innings, allowing seven hits and allowing him two and six.

As Arenado hit his 23rd home run of the season and Pujols hit his eighth, the Cardinals hit two more in his sixth inning.

St. Louis struck again in his ninth, with DeJon singled and homered on Nutvar's second triple of the night. Colorado rallied to the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Daza, Iglesias, and Rodgers.
