Anti-mask protester released after allegedly assaulting peace officers

A 60-year-old man who was recently busted during an anti-mask rally at the Ontario Legislature was released from custody Friday.

Brian Kidder was taken into custody on Oct. 21 and charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer.

Toronto Police allege Kidder tried to get into the Ontario Legislature and when he was stopped two people were assaulted.

Kidder has been on a mission for years to vindicate claims against the WSIB by trying to get close to elected officials.

In 2014 the WSIB denied Kidder’s claim for benefits after he received a head injury when he was attacked at a bar where he worked.

He has tried to arrest Premier Doug Ford and the Prime Minister and has accosted NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.

“The accused stated he would not hurt the Premier, that he would just tell him he is under arrest and turn him over to police officers that are always around him,” police have said in a past statement.

The Premier’s office released a statement following last week’s anti-mask rally.

“We know this pandemic has been very difficult for everyone, but we can’t let the sacrifices of so many Ontarians be for nothing. As our battle against this virus continues, our government will continue taking action based on the very best public health advice available,” said Ivana Yelich, spokesman for the Premier’s office.

“At the same time, we need all Ontarians to do their part, work together, and practice the rules we know work and keep us safe, like limiting close contact, physical distancing, and wearing a mask when distancing isn’t possible.”

A Queen’s Park guard has claimed Kidder has been problematic at the Legislature for years and once Super Glued his hand to a railing in the spectators’ gallery.

Kidder is expected to return to Queen’s Park court to face the assault charges on Dec. 2.
