Watsonville, CA — 2 in Northern California At least two of the three passengers died when the plane crashed Thursday as it attempted to land at a local airport, officials said Thursday.
A clash occurred at the Watsonville Municipal Airport shortly before 3:00 pm, according to a tweet from the City of Watsonville.
The twin-engine Cessna 340 had two people on board at the time of the crash, while the single-engine Cessna 152 had only the pilot on board, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Authorities say multiple fatalities have been reported, but it was not immediately clear if anyone survived.
When the crash occurred, the pilots were on their final approach to the airport. the FAA said in a statement. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
There were no casualties on the ground.

Photos and videos of the scene posted on social media showed a man falling into the lawn A field near the airport where the wreckage of a small plane was visible. Photos from the city of Watsonville showed a small building at the airport damaged and firefighters at the scene.

Watsonville, near Monterey Bay, is about 100 miles (160 km) south of San Francisco.
