For a couple who quit the Royal Family in order to seek privacy, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, sure have spent a lot of time chasing the spotlight.

As if their devastating interview with Oprah, as Harry’s grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh lay dying weren’t bad enough, the couple’s latest attempt at pity porn just dropped.

As the Canadian national soccer teams head to their respective FIFA World Cups, Derek Van Diest is on the scene to cover all the action. Expect expert insights and analysis in your inbox daily throughout the tournaments, and weekly on Thursdays for the rest of the season.

Their Netflix show, Harry and Meghan, brought with it more whining, more grievances and more attacks the Royal Family.

Apparently, Meghan was shocked to discover that joining the Royals wasn’t like the Princess Diaries. Now there’s a surprise. She got no lessons in etiquette, wasn’t taught to curtsey and was caught off-guard when she had to do so at a surprise first meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II. This contradicts reports that the Queen suggested Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, might be able to help her ease into Royal life.

Apparently Meghan and Harry, the fifth in line to the throne, were surprised there was a hierarchy within the monarchy. Did they think the person with the most Instagram followers got to become king? Perhaps in the Princess Diaries. Not in real life.

What kind of a brother is Harry that he would make money from nasty comments about William and his sister-in-law, Catherine, now Prince and Princess of Wales? Harry makes a comment that Royal men tend to marry women who fit a “mould.” What’s closer to the truth is that weak and not very bright royal men tend to marry pushy women who want to exploit their status. Think Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson.

Harry presumably meant it as a criticism of Catherine. Oh, the horror! William married a woman who adores her husband, is a wonderful mother and tends to stay classy when the world around her implodes. Unlike H&M, Catherine has a close relationship with both her parents and with her siblings. As far as we know, Harry hasn’t even met Meghan’s father. Meghan is alienated from him and her Markle step family. Yet here they are giving relationship advice to a brother and his wife who are well-adjusted and talking to everyone. And he snipes at his father, saying he doesn’t want to make the same mistakes as his parents. Like providing him with a lavish wedding at Windsor Castle and walking the bride down the aisle.

Then there’s the devastating betrayal of the princes’ mother, Diana, by the inclusion of the 1995 TV interview she gave with the BBC. What kind of a son would allow any reference to that interview? How did Netflix get permission to use those clips, when the interview was found to have been obtained by coercion and the BBC said it would never licence it for use again? Harry acknowledges the interview was problematic, but justifies the clip by saying Diana “spoke the truth of her experience.”

The interview has been denounced by Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, and the BBC has apologized profusely to King Charles, William and Harry. The Dyson Report concluded the BBC journalist used “deceitful methods to gain access to Diana, including allegedly forging documents.”

Yet here’s Netflix, using the clips, the fruit of a poisoned branch, that can only open old wounds for the family?

And H&M just couldn’t wait. This comes barely three months after the passing of the beloved Queen Elizabeth.

They seem to be making a career out of this pity party. Meanwhile, they live in a multimillion dollar California mansion — only because Harry is a prince.

You have to wonder why they cling to their royal titles when they so clearly despise the institution of the monarchy. It’s time for them to move on.
