Toronto — The Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman is Tampa Bay After being attacked by a cambacker in the first Toronto doubleheader match against Rays, he suffered a setback in his right ankle.
The team said the radiograph of Gausman's ankle returned to negative.
Tampa shortstop Wander Franco hit Gausman with a cambacker in the second inning, and the ball bounced off the grass to the pitcher's right ankle.
Gausman tried to get the ball into the field, but instead fell into his stomach on the grass at Rogers Center.
Toronto catcher Gabriel Moreno completes play and initially throws Diaz, but Gausman is still lying prone nearby.
The trainer attended Gausman and helped him from the field when the innings were over.
Right-handed Casey Lawrence, called by Triple A Buffalo as the 27th player in Toronto's doubleheader, took over the pitching mission in the third inning.
