VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) — The bodies of two young children were recovered from Lake Minnesota. Searchers are looking for a third who fears they may have intentionally drowned.
Meanwhile, the children's father died elsewhere a few hours ago, and his mother is missing. The name is not disclosed.
The sequence of events began on Friday morning when a father was found dead in a mobile home in the town of Maplewood near Minneapolis. Police determined that the woman had left with her children and the search began.
Maplewood Police Lieutenant Joe Steiner said a woman's car was found near Lake Vadne around 4 pm. Friday. Children's shoes were found on the shore.
A search of the lake found the body of a child on Friday night. A second body was found overnight. Searchers from several organizations were busy looking for a third as well as their mother on Saturday.
Authorities believe that all three children are under the age of five.
"Nothing is more tragic than losing a young child," Sheriff Bob Fletcher of Ramsey County said at a press conference on Friday. He called death "probably a triple murder."
