Body retrieved from rubble of Old Montreal fire was a woman, police say

There are six more people missing, from Quebec, Ontario and the United States.

Montreal fire officials confirmed Monday that the body they found in the rubble of an Old Montreal fire Sunday was a woman.

They used drones and a fire-department bucket truck to locate the victim, Montreal police inspector David Shane said. The assumption is that there are six more people inside the building, he said. The victims are from Quebec, Ontario and the United States.

Nine people were injured in the fire, which broke out at 5:45 Thursday morning. It took 130 firefighters hours to get the blaze under control. The building, at the corner of Place d’Youville and du Port Sts., is too unstable for firefighters or police to enter.
