Belgium, Antwerp — Canada's women's 3x3 basketball team won the silver medal at the FIBA World Cup 2022 on Sunday after making a 16-13 decision to France.
Michelle Plouffe had 7 points, 4 rebounds and 5 blocks in Canada. Her sister, Catherine Proof, had 6 points and 7 rebounds.
"The Canadian team is a really great team," said Marie Eve Padgett of France. "If you're not a great team, you haven't played in the finals. This is revenge because you played against them in a friendly match before the World Cup and lost twice."
Hortense Limouzin scored with a fade-away jumper, giving France a three-point lead, less than a minute, but Katherine Plouffe made a two-point match.
Michelle Plouffe diverts the ball out of the French player's range to steal the ball to Canada with 17.2 seconds remaining. However, Canadians could not score on the next possession.
Padgett was fouled and sealed the French victory with 3.1 seconds remaining.
This was France's first gold medal at the event and the first silver medal for a Canadian who defeated Lithuania 16-14 in the semifinals earlier that day.
